Just got finished listening to the new Combustible Edison album, "The Impossible World". Yes, the same Combustible Edison who were at the forefront of that whole "Cocktail Nation" lounge revival thing. I've always liked them, but wouldn't've considered them on-topic for IDM before. However, this new disc is co-produced by Scanner, and is an really interesting mixture of ComEd's neo-exotika and Robin's electronic blurping. His touch can be felt on at least half of the tracks on the album, and there are a bunch of between track interludes that he is obviously responsible for. Best of all is the final track, "Utopia (Scanner's reprise)", which is a beautiful dubby ambient remix of the album's opening track. Wonderful stuff, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how they translate the electronic elements into a live context when they play here in a couple of weeks. Greg
