The whole *point* of the release (which is simply called > Orange, I think) id a tribute/homage to "Oh Yeah". They're ok guys actually, especially running small store and being careful to order experimental/electro/oddball stuff for the few individuals they know that order it. They just don't pick up on the parodys/tributes/puns/tongue-in-cheek-artwork sides of the records. > How is it, anyway? I haven't heard it yet. It is pretty "hard" imo, that is it builds up really solidly and Hawtin is working the samples repetitively the way he'd carve/evolve the sound of his 909+ which gives the samples a more-than-cut-n-paste feel you might imagine and clearly takes on a lot of building energy (esp both tracks of side a). Made for dj'ing (probably goes without saying I suppose) and has a cold-techno rhythm side to it in that there is no funk/breaks/breakdowns but is built up in the Plastikman sensibility. I'm a pretty unbiased Hawtin listenner; liked half of his Plastikman stuff and am not really into his Consumed thing, though I know a lot of atmospheric ambient out there (got the latest 2x12" of Thomas Heckmann and found that more interesting as ambient imho, though more lo-fi or amateur with the reverb depending on how you look at it... but then I listen to Merzbow and Dan Menche as ambient, so...) Since the Hawtin is $6 domestic and a good pressing, I guess I give it a 7 or 8 out of 10. Solenoid
