>Speaking of OST, he just released a stunning >cd on the Dial label called Fashion for Passion. >It's a terrific 10-tracker of more subtle deep >dark bassy experimental excursions that would >appeal to fans of mego, raster, touch, and >phthalo alike. while i'm fans of those labels (well, except pthalo, which is just a bit too noisy for me), one probably shouldn't take the above description to mean ost's _fashion for passion_ sounds remotely like much of those labels' output. much of the album is lo-fi ambient with chaotic percussion a bit further down in the mix. "heavy ambient" was the description ost once used to approximate his music, and others i've played it for have compared it to a darker, more minimal orb circa _orbus terrarum_, less in the sounds than in the arrangements and overall "feel." my own comparison would be something like a dirtier, stripped down, _heterarchy_-era freeform. in fact, worm interface is probably the most suitable label to release his stuff -- it's appropriate he's had tracks on the _disco moonlight_ series, under the name rook vallard -- so i would recommend _passion for fashion_ to fans of that label's varied output. >There is also another new Dial >cd called Marina that, i believe, is also >produced by OST. I havent listened it enough >yet to give a proper opinion though. I can >recommend however that you pick both Dial >releases up because they are both excellent >and limited. marina is a san francisco-based post-rock/noise "group" (it's a single guy, actually). sc onnow: global communication : 76'14" (dedicated)
