Someone asked for the complete Aran scribed rules regarding auctions, this is all I have, hope it helps. ( Slightly excerpted to cut the size: ) >> Date: Tue, 28 Apr 1998 07:44:16 -0700 (PDT) From: "Aran M. Parillo" <xxxx@xxxxxxxxx.xxx> Subject: (idm) IMPORTANT: REGARDING AUCTIONS/ADS ET AL For the convenience of the listmembers and to ease the burden on our server and network, some restrictions on For Sale lists and Wanted lists (classifieds) are being enforced. It is okay to post short classifieds to the mailing list, but they must: 1. pertain to Intelligent Dance Music 2. be for personal transactions, not on behalf of a business 3. be not much longer than a screenful (25 lines) 4. not be repetitive (do not keep re-posting the same items) Auctions should be posted once to attract bidders, then be conducted in private thereafter. Any other classifieds, including long sale lists, should be announced as briefly as possible, with an invitation for interested parties to email you directly or visit a web location to receive the full information. >> I think some of the auction posters simply *don't know* the rules and some *ignore * the rules. It parallels life, I guess. There was a Steve Martin joke I remember where he came up with a great excuse for anyone faced with a difficult situation where two words will save you every time, " I forgot". Let's say you're on trial for armed robbery. You face the judge and tell him, " I *forgot* armed robbery was illegal." Ignorance is bliss, yeah? JJ Perrey question: I just picked up a vinyl copy of "Eclectronicks" by JJ Perrey. What's the story on this? I have the classic " In Sound from Way out" LP but this came as a suprise...and it's pretty cool to boot though incredibly *silly*. Anyone? Is this new material? Should'nt he be about 150 years old by now? Muslimgauze: anyone heard the new MiniDisc only release? James Bernard: I believe brap (?) mentioned James Bernard not getting mentioned enough. I do remember a looooong thread last year resulting in several bloody lips and threatened lawsuits. Or maybe that was Luke Slater? Beaumont Hannant? Anyways, yes...props to Bernard. He is not ignored. For all the in tune, out of tune debaters...where's your reference point for tuning? Surely many cultures musics are missed when you follow Western convention. Not that Western tuning convention is a *bad* thing, there's just so much more. Listen to some gamelan, viet river songs, arabic tar music, the list goes on... Surely if this tuning thread were based on *time* structure (tempo/rhythm etc etc ) we'd all be throwing away our Autechre records, right? Peter
