I like it, because just when you have fallen into a groove, the artist will throw out a burst of snares or cymbals that clearly remind you *th= is is being electronically manipulated*. <<< i have been listening to this record quite a bit and definately enjoyin= g it. this description of the drums sounding live w/ reminders of electro= nic manipulation is pretty spot-on. taking it further it is almost as if degiorgio has attempted to re-construct a mid-late '60's jazz sound w/ = max roach (from a quick scan of the sleevenotes there was a definate name-c= heck here, tho' i didn't delve into detail or context - sorry don't have it = to hand fact-checkers) and pharoah sanders, and give it an ever so slight modern electronic edge. and here lies the niggle. why? i'm not convince= d that what was revolutionary 30 years past can be much more than entertaining if reproduced today as an original work. and it is, entertaining that is and very well put together, oozing meticulous skil= l. but i can't see it causing an upset on the scale of ancestors like davi= s, sanders, coltrane..., or even contempories like squarepusher and the d*ill'n'b**s hordes. a bit of a puzzler really. -martin -btw- the digest #1369 i recieved consisted of - ??, and i'm quoting it in it= s entirety here. did the list server commit suicide as a result of the "w= hat is idm" erm, discussion? did artificial intelligence advance to the poi= nt where software can now not only feel emotion but react to bleak despair= ? off list replies welcome. np squarepusher/burningn'n tree (now there's clarity and functional design. all the tracks are listed o= n both the box and the disc. my cd player even shows them on the display;= -) =
