my Mackie mixer had gain available on the line inputs, but i didn't
like the idea of that, so i ran the synths at full internal volume and
set the Mackie gain to unity. having said that, i only used the Mackie
for monitoring, i had a nice DI/preamp/compressor/converter chain for
actual tracking.

that's an interesting box, btw. "silent" conversion from -10 to +4
while balancing sounds really handy! offhand i don't remember what the
Mackie is expecting, but if it's expecting -10, then best to keep it
there.

btw, have you checked that the audio quality on a straight -10
unbalanced cable is affected by the run?
