my Mackie mixer had gain available on the line inputs, but i didn't like the idea of that, so i ran the synths at full internal volume and set the Mackie gain to unity. having said that, i only used the Mackie for monitoring, i had a nice DI/preamp/compressor/converter chain for actual tracking. that's an interesting box, btw. "silent" conversion from -10 to +4 while balancing sounds really handy! offhand i don't remember what the Mackie is expecting, but if it's expecting -10, then best to keep it there. btw, have you checked that the audio quality on a straight -10 unbalanced cable is affected by the run?
