Today I happened across the Ishimitu cd "Bass Sonority" on Soup I believert it is. I know someone here on idm recently was interested in Japanese beats. In the last few months I have found myself listening to Sam & Valley (Rephlex), Reflection (Clear), Karate Psycho(Craft Works), Kiyoshi Isumi (Rephlex), Bisk (Sub Rosa) and now Ishimitu, which I understand is a Japanese duo, though if you know please correct me or fill me in with extra info as I know nothing about them. The bass is played by Masaaki Kikuchi. Misaaki definitely fucks shit up. In addition to nice bass sounds throughout, there are interesting piano and sax samples, but ultimately i am split as to how i feel about whether the simplicity of the songs adds or subtracts from my overall take on the album. I enjoy supporting artists who are doing interesting stuff, so i won't hesitate about whether it was worth it or not, though at $20 you might feel like you just got soaked if you're looking for something this cd ain't. If you're a beatfreak I wouldn't tell you to get this release, as it's pretty unoriginal in that category, ie nothing you haven't heard before. Bass Sonority plays pretty continuous throughout with downtempo beats and bits and pieces of acoustic samples thrown in. The cd clocks in at around 40 min. There is a lot of nice stuff going on here, don't get me wrong. I particularly enjoy the use of and originality of the samples, and the fact that the music doesn't sound heavily programmed to the point that everything is perfectly on time. It's important to throw a litt le bit of offbeat shit in for good measure. All that said, anyone out there heard Dot? I haven't and I'm curious what they're up to. If you've heard Dot, the artist not the label, and have a sec to spare, please lemme know what that's like. Thanks. As always, love, warrenshadey ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
