>it seems to have the ingredients to be a disgrace to all tricky fans but >maybe im nieve, im not gonna judge it by its cover. > having waited in anticipation and bought the album on the day of it's release, i was initially a bit disappointed with it, didn't like the vocals on it. but...having listened to it several more times since, it's really grown on me. it shows a sense of humour while maintaining a dark underworldy quality [no, not the band, the gangster type :) ]. definitely more of a return to the more "maxinquaye" sound in that it's lightened up since his progressively darker 3-4 previous albums. "for real" is a great track [and worth getting the single to hear his version of m's "pop musik"]. also like "she said" and "scrappy love". "i like the girls" makes me laugh. :) still on the tricky vibe, track down the terry hall ep "rainbows" to hear the tricky/terry hall live remake of the specials' "ghost town". it really is excellent, slowed right down and made sinister in a uniquely tricky type way. :) -paul |=-=- records + cd's for sale: http://www.hendrix.demon.co.uk/forsale -=-=| |=- last updated: 16 aug 1999 - added: menswear, 8th wonder, happy mondays -=| |=- last updated: 16 aug 1999 - updated: catatonia, indie, cast, sleeper -=|
