Items released under the guise of shinjuku thief can be categorized as modern classical or dark orchestra <except for the first album, bloody tourist>. Items released under the alias of shinjuku filth are more industrial/experimental in nature. And to complicate things more, items released under Professor Richmann are more experimental/technoish/ambient in nature. They all sound different. I personally like them all. Shinjuku thief, imho, produces some great minimal classical music that is combined with shadows of industrial <usually in the form of noise or effects>. The other aliases produce music that is completely different. Professor Richmann - the succulent blue sway has to be one of my favorite CDs. It has it all. Minimal ambient, darkish brooding basic channel beats, harsh fast and agressive beats etc. It was composed for a modern dance performance. Because of that it explores quite a few avenues. However, it is a cohesive album. >interesting what you said about download's the eyes of > stanley pain as it's probably my favorite download release. > "glassblower" reminds me of some of the harser aphex material, but even > better imho. a lot of interesting songs, and a few duds that stop it > from working as an entire album. I thought the sidewinder ep was quite good. To me EOP was to upfront and not as experimental as previous releases. The vocals were thrust upon you. On furnace the vocals are present but layered with the music. They are in some ways used as an instrument. I thought that was lost on EOP. My favorite release by them has to be either furnace or III <depends on my mood>. III on the surface may appear to be very upfront but it isn't. The amount of layering/noise is incredible. Microscopic gets honorable mention as well. still quite good... as for > muslimgauze, i've considered trying some of his stuff out but have been > scared away because i feel like it might be too "worldy" for my tastes. > any recommendations? tanks. > The more recent releases have been more agressive and distorted. As such they may appeal to you more. To get a good idea of what his sound is like check out Muslimgauze - beyond the blue mosque compilation. It is quite good and not worldly. see http://Pretentious.Net/Muslimgauze/muslim(N).htm for info. reviews etc on muslimgauze -daniel
