Brock drunkenly scribbled:

and then proceeds to totally belie that statement by saying

(I think you made out in the end on that deal, my friend. :D )

Actually, to be honest, this is probably the most appropriate post in the
thread, because it literally "changed his life", rather than figuratively.

For example, Skinny Puppy's "Remission" EP literally changed my life. Not
because of the music on it (though it was great), but because buying it got me
into their music and it led directly to meeting them when they played their
first L.A. show in 1986. This began an association that continues to this
very day, with a lot of special moments and moments of heartache in between.
And in particular, if I'd never bought a Puppy album I never would have met
Dwayne Rudolph Goettel, one of the most amazing human beings I'll ever have
the pleasure of knowing. That was truly "life changing".

The only other example I can think of would be in 1979. I'd dropped out of
school, gotten evicted from a $56 a month apartment (yes, that's no typo! It
was $167 a month split 3 ways) because I couldn't pay the rent, and was
suicidal for a good stretch of that year. Luckily 1979 also happened to be
The Year That Post-Punk Was Born, and I have these 1979 albums to thank for
pulling me through my darkest hour (in approximate order of importance to me):

Joy Division "Unknown Pleasures" (and "Transmission"/"Novelty" 7")
Wire "154"
PiL "First Edition" (beginning of the year) and "Metal Box" (end of the year)
Siouxsie and the Banshees "Join Hands"
Buzzcocks "A Different Kind Of Tension"
The Cure "Three Imaginary Boys"
Gang of Four "Entertainment!"
Talking Heads "Fear of Music"
XTC "Drums and Wires"
The Undertones "The Undertones"
Cabaret Voltaire "Mix-Up"
Throbbing Gristle "2nd Annual Report"
The Specials "The Specials"
Madness "One Step Beyond"
The Slits "Cut"
The Ramones "It's Alive"
A Certain Ratio "The Graveyard And The Ballroom" (cassette album)
Magazine "Secondhand Daylight"
Telex "Looking for St. Tropez"
The Human League "Reproduction"
Elvis Costello "Armed Forces"

Lucky for me it was a good year, eh? :-P
