Drain is a "trip-hop" project by King Coffee, the drummer for The Butthole
Surfers. Unlike other lousy attempts techno attempts by BH Surfer alumni
(anyone hear the Jack Officers? UGH!), this one really takes off.

In the context of Drain, I use the term "complicated" to refer to the
variety of sounds and dense layering. Like "Throbbing Pouch", "Offspeed and
In There" is built around hip-hop style beats and jazzy instrumental loops.
The Drain album throws everything in the mix and uses a seemingly unlimited
set of samples; Harry Partch, Erik Satie, gamelan, North African music,
"exotica", etc. are appropriated or used with skill. I like it and
wouldn't mind hearing more.

Drain's full-length LP/CD is entitled "Offspeed and In There" on Trance
Syndicate. There is a Drain EP (don't remember the title) but it should be
dated around 1994. Don't go near that. There must be a WWW site somewhere.
Anyone know?
