Schizm

A night jointly organised by Skam and Glitch. Seems to be vaguely
monthly. At the Park (ex-Man Alive) of all places. Not a club you would
wander into by accident, but it seemed a large proportion of the crowd
were not well prepared for Ae's set.

Not sure about the order of the DJs, but judging by the tune selection it
was Skam first. The usual electro goodness mixed in with a few classics
e.g. Cordialotron or Italic Eyeball - you know, the good one from Joyrex 4
with the marimba-type line; Balil - Nort Route (which we had on in the
car on the way there - etc.), Boards - June 9th (yes - very satisfying to
dance to that one), Carl Craig etc. Very nice.

Ae performed from behind a net thing, but this didn't hinder some keen
equipment spotting. Seems there were a pair of MMT8s in action along with
the usual Nord Lead, laptop and Ensoniq. Started off with some wonderful
abstract noise before reprising the last track from Cichlisuite (er -
don't have them with me now to check). Then a hybrid with the melody from
the last track of Envane surrounded by an entirely new rhythm track and
noises. Soaring and absorbing. They also played the one which makes me
laugh every time with the 5/4 rhythm to foil all the slavish dance-types.
At one point a large bloke seemed to remonstrate with them, hoping for
some straightforward beats rather than strange sounds. It didn't work.

Quite similar to the recent sets I saw at Leeds and Blech but nothing
wrong with that.

"I hate them for being so talented" was a quote on the night with which I
couldn't disagree.
