i should have said "the analog synths that i am looking for are
expensive". (i'm looking for an mks80 with programmer and an arp
2600. if i get the 2600 i will then need to invest in a kenton
midi-CV converter to make full use of it, so that's even more
money.)

i was just trying to provide a general perspective. a lot of these
"virtual analog" things get a bad rap, and i do think that most of
them deserve it.

i don't think i said that. i just said that it's a really good box
