It is, bar one very important point. The 2SC2874 mute transistor. The 
little beggars slowly die taking the audio down piece by piece of over 
the years. Either remove it or replace with a new one and enjoy 
distortion free sound. If your JP-6 distorts with the VCA level turned 
up it's probably this transistor.

Mute transistor aside I'm not convinced the XLR sounds better either. 
The transformer probably does add 'something' to the sound though.
