I like some of the producers doing this style, but I feel there's too
much identikit dark stuff around at the moment. A lot of it is beginning
to get stale, and a new sound needs to come through to move the scene
forward. All the hip-hop sound and attitude seems to be drained out of
drum and bass these days, which is a shame, as now it seems to only
reflect it's hardcore and techno roots. That's why I like the Dope
Dragon stuff so much, because it has a but of the dark element, but
still plenty of rolling breaks which keeps the groove going, as well as
building up the sounds throughout until the tracks just runs...

>Fave artists are Optical and Technical Itch.

Agree on this though, both have done some great stuff. Optical is
wicked, but I don't own much of his stuff myself. To Shape The Future
was an excellent track, and his new one with Ed Rush on V ('The
Funkster' coming before the end of the year) is wicked too. He engineers
for Grooverider too, if I remember rightly, so props for that too.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know if To Shape The Future is
on Platinum Breakz II, and also whether the exclusive Dillinja and Lemon
D tracks are as good as their other stuff of late? Also anyone know the
tracklisting for the 5x12" metal box set that's coming on Metalheadz. It
better be good, because this little beauty is gonna cost some serious
caaash money! :-)

>>Woo hoo! Optical's new one on Prototype is delicious!
>>With a track name like "Moving 808s" you know I'm *satisfied*.

>Moving 808's is one of the best tunes I've ever heard in my entire life!
>Total fucked up-ness, really original sounds and the breaks!

Holding out on this one in favour of Dillinja's new release as Cybotron,
also on Prototype. Your reccommendation tempts me though (but my wallet
says otherwise)...

Just got Decoders Decoded EP and it's good stuff. Four trax, one of
which is a Peshay mix of Circuit Breaker.
Their original Circuit Breaker/Life 12" has been one of my favourites
this year. I like the Tech Itch stuff, but they release a lot of stuff
that sounds similar, and I try to limit myself to only a few recordings
of theirs. I have the TIC 12", Controlled Explosion/Able, which is
pretty good. Also heard Stronghold/Hidden Sound which I like, but the
style is nothing that different from their other stuff. Visited the Tech
Itch site yesterday, but it's still under construction
(http://www.techitch.demon.co.uk).

Anyway, that's it for now, except to say welcome to IDM, a utopia full
of music lovers partaking in open-minded debate, exchanging reviews and
info while drooling at the mouth like the rabid anally retentive
trainspotters we are. Well, it would be, in a perfect world!

Enjoy your stay...
