The non-centering pitch bend pot of the early Arp Odyssey is the only one I despise - all the others I have gotten used to and they all have their merits. I'm okay with a standard pitch bend wheel, though I probably prefer a Roland or Korg-type joystick for pitch control. It's also easier to 'spank' a joystick, for getting those really fast pitch 'blips' - you can do this with a wheel also, but not as easily. I like a standard mod wheel if I am adding vibrato or controlling the filter - I find this more natural and easier to control than doing it with a spring-loaded joystick, and certainly better than with a bender switch (either on or off) like the Juno-106. I love Ensoniq's patch select buttons (like on the ASR-10 or TS-10) for switching in different aspects of the sound - for example, I have a Fender Bass guitar sample that I can press a patch select button and get a slide down the fretboard. Ribbon controllers are fun, too, though I haven't used them that much for 'real' playing (i.e. gigging or recording). Others may find them much more useful than I have - perhaps I just haven't explored the possibilities enough.
