MANY things are out there for converting mp3s to wavs...even Winamp will do
it. No need to go to DAT if you want to cdr them. Just convert to wavs (or
aiffs if you're a mac-er) and then burn 'em off. The real trick is encoding
wavs to mp3s - takes time and many progs only go up to 128 kbps, which they
call cd quality, but isn't. Don't waste your time messing with anything
under 128 kbps mp3s - and actually, when you can find them encoded at 160
kbps they're much better. Winamp will show you the encoding rate as you play
them. At 128 kbps, the cutoff is about 16 khz. At 160 kbps, the cutoff is 20
khz. You can hear (if you have excellent hearing) up to about 22 khz, so
there IS a difference and this will be found by comparing the original with
mp3s compressed at different levels. The lower the rate, the more
compression, the smaller the file and vice versa. Not a techie by any means,
so I will defer to greater knowledge
here.
