This is an *excellent* introduction to the Fax label, totally brilliant. Fax is one of those rare labels that selects the best tracks from each of its contributing albums when making a compilation. This is true almost to the point of me being somewhat disappointed when I found the respective full lengths, because I had already heard the best that album had to offer ;). Anyway, there's some fabulous stuff on there, like Kisy Loa from IF 1 (the full length is long gone), Biotrip from Shades of Orion 1 (also gone, and hugely sought after at $100 a pop), Sad Alliance from From Within 1 (fantastic, even the rerelease is prolly snatched up). Oh, and there's Holy Dance by Tetsu Inoue; this and Chill In/Chill Out (available on Fax Comp 2) are ambient brilliance at its finest. anyway, I recommend getting it. That and fax compilation 2 are probably all the Fax you'll ever need, unless you're a freak like me and the rest of the fax-crack addicts. :) p.s. I wouldn't characterise much Fax material as being IDM; rather, I'd call it melodic, beautiful, ambient/trancey/downtempo, sophisticated but not groundbreaking stuff. Some of it is just fabulous; other is kinda mediocre. the comps are a great intro, tho. p.p.s. I hope the Compilation 1 you're talking about is the 2-cd released by Instinct; there's a tiny chance it could be one of the much older (and cheesier) compilations of Fax dance music. If the disc you found has the tracks I mention, then it's the one I'm talking about.
