Barbra Streisand vs. Celine Dion vs. IDM? John Tesh vs. IDM? And it's gotta have really prominent vocals because that's what IDM-ers hate the most. (In a funny way, didn't coldcut already do this?) And we've got to set ground rules about how much of the song you've got to leave intact. For example, you can't just bite a 1-second beep from the song and call it a remix. In fact, maybe we should make it illegal to use more than a certain amount of original material in the song. The remixes should retain the flavor of the previous remix. If not we'll have a whole new song by step two (I suppose that's partially the point though). But it would be more fun if each step along the way kind of resembled several of the steps before it instead of just being a one-person wank-fest for each of the respective remixers along the way. If we don't limit it it would be like a collaborative painting where each painter painted the previous version white before doing their part. I'm not one for strict rules though. I'd simply say that each remix should be at least "50% like" the original song. What "50% like" really means is up to the artist's discretion. If you abuse the discretion and argue that sampling only a beep qualifies, well, then you're a wanker. Or maybe you can do anything you want but you have to leave the vocals 100% intact, all there, and still in the front of the mix. This is the traditional pop-remix formula. _Cf
