LA Edge Festival Director Simon Watson runs NY's Downtown Arts Projects, a=
=20
non-profit arts education organization which produces the monthly art guide=
=20
Simon Says and the annual Downtown Arts Festival. Now in its seventh year,=
=20
the Downtown Arts Festival (this year from September 8th - 30th) highlights=
=20
the best in downtown Manhattan's visual arts and performance scene,=20
connecting the finest experimental arts organizations in NY including the=20
Knitting Factory, the Kitchen, PS122 and diverse arts presenters. Now in its=
=20
fourth year, Simon Says highlights the best in multi-disciplinary=20
experimental arts; this 16-page guide can be found in the Village Voice the=
=20
first Wednesday of every month. Recognizing that Los Angeles artists have=20
been driving the most exciting work appearing in New York City, Simon made=
=20
the logical conclusion to create a focused experimental arts festival here.

"I am delighted to support the LA Edge Festival. I have watched Simon Watson=
=20
build New York's Downtown Arts Festival, which over the course of seven=20
years has grown from a block party to become the season's inaugural event=20
for New York's experimental arts community. It is my pleasure to encourage=
=20
the LA Edge Festival and its aspirations to build an annual celebration of=
=20
the diverse experimental arts scene of Los Angeles."

=BEHon. Joel Wachs, Los Angeles City Councilman and Honorary Co-Chair of the=
=20
LA Edge Festival

LA Edge Festival is a multi-disciplinary arts festival celebrating the=20

=B7 To inaugurate LA's experimental arts season through a focused program of=
=20
arts events featuring visual, film & video, digital, performance artists,=20
musicians and DJ's.

=B7 To create greater public awareness of LA's contemporary art scene=
 through=20
behind the scenes walks and talks with artists and art professionals. =B7 To=
=20
link with New York's Downtown Arts Festival (Sept. 8th - 30th) to create a=
=20
powerful bi-coastal celebration of experimental arts and artists.

The LA Edge Festival Program Guide (circulation 250,000) will contain=20
complete information on Festival events And participants. The program will=
=20
be a special insert in the LA Weekly, available Thursday, September 16th.=20
Also, you may visit the Festival on-line at www.simonsays.org.

The Experimental Arts Information Bureau (located at 6150 Wilshire) will be=
=20
open September 21st - 25th, 10am-6pm. The Information Bureau, curated by=20
Dave Muller, is an information center for experimental LA arts=20
organizations.

"For years I've been coming to Los Angeles and enjoying the fruits of the=20
City's abundant emerging and experimental arts communities. By linking the=
=20
New York and Los Angeles arts scenes, we are making a big statement about=20
the incredible vitality of the arts scene today. I've been overwhelmed by=20
the enthusiastic response from LA's artists and arts presenters. Most of=20
all, I love a good party, so in keeping with the Festival's mission of=20
introducing the arts to new audiences, all of the LA Edge Festival events=20
are FREE." =BESimon Watson, Festival Director
