B12 trivia: when Electro-Soma first came out, either a music mag article or a Warp print ad said B12 made Aphex Twin sound like Kylie Minogue. Err... yeah. I won't write a lengthy me-too, but Electro-Soma is definitely one of my all-time faves. Whether you find the album "boring" might depend on when you first heard it. It was my fourth IDM album back in '91 or '92, after (ahem) Moby, Aphex Twin, and Polygon Window, and I still remember being struck by the simple melodies and the sheer glossy shiny sheen of the album. But if I first picked it up for the first time in 1998 after listening to crazy d'n'b mutations for a year or two, maybe I'd find the drum programming a bit simplistic. It's like listening to 808 State's ex:el again - don't get me wrong, it's a great album, but whereas I thought San Francisco was a very complex track back when the album came out, nowadays it sounds relatively simple in melody and structure.
