I think that to enter into the world of Miles Davis *in terms of this list*, one should, without a doubt, start with Bitches Brew, then work your way forewards and backwards from there. The record is THE fulcrum at the point of Miles Davis of the Future, and Miles Davis of the Past, regardless of all the other milestones (no pun intended) he took modern music through (like the Gil Evans era). You don't simply pick a Miles LP, listen to it, and move on to other things. You either learn music history (while having your head blown off) or you don't. If you don't know Miles, I can only assume that there's a whole lot else you don't know, so keep in mind that he, for all he is, is only one player in a huge game of musical development.
