it has been asked many times, but it is a worthwhile question. (compared
to what has been passing for posts lately)
i am pretty sure that lance will post just before or after me saying about
the same thing- they are all good, some are great. the biokinetics is very hazy
with a feeling of constant motion, brings to mind a locomotive in the fog. i know
everyone makes nautical references, but i have to yet to feel submerged..
monolake is dryer, and showcases crisp, straight-ahead beats. the one to
really look out for is the new monolake-interstate on their own monolake label.
i dont listen to vainquer and substance as much, but they are good, i would
be hard pressed to give an accurate description though. compiled.. focuses
more on upbeat tracks, if you can get a decent domestic price, you may
want to check that out.
my two favorites of the moment are various artists- decay product and the
new one by fluxion (its so good the title escapes me at the moment).
the v/a is the most mesmerising for me, if you want the 'heroin house' or whatever
the name of the week is, this is it. not as good as 8/8.5/9, but excellent nonetheless.
the fluxion is a blend of the v/a-porter ricks haze and the beats of vainquer and
monolake, the true cr sound. those who say it is 'more of the cr sound' in a negative way
are right, but if you want more of it, there is no substitutet.
other stuff to pick up-
the basic channel v/a cd -where it all started
and if you have a turntable, start looking for the
cr releases and bc/r+s/bm/din/ms etc. one nice thing is
is you can still get the old ones easily for domestic prices.

got a big ass bag of cologne records yesterday, possible reviews later.
the only one i heard so far was intershop by dettinger (kompakt02cd).
very different than expected. i didnt hear any of the funky house that
has been streaming out of the ink/burger/mayer/paap camp and instead
its almost ambient. i would almost think of bola minus the melodies. has
more in common with the downtempo/ambient of the tom/novisad cologne artists
(great set on saturday in chicago btw)
