Monster excitement reigns :-) Last week I was alerted by my friendly regular 2nd hand CD shop that a large consignment of "stuff you might be interested in" was coming in early this week and this morning a large wad of bills crossed the counter and I made off with a bag of 10 never before heard CD's, the likes of which certainly never grace our shops. Apparently all brought in by a music reviewer - mind you, there are NO local publications in which I've ever seen any of these reviewed... Here goes: Steve Stoll - Damn Analog Technology (sm;)le, 1997) Arno Peeters - AeroSon (Mille Plateaux, 1997) Freeform - Heterarchy (Worm Interface, 1996) Steve Reich - The Desert Music (Nonesuch 1985) Tetragramaton - Submerge *a Bill Laswell project* (Ion, ?) Bill Laswell - City of Light (SubRosa, undated) Alec Empire - Les Etoiles Des FIlles Mortes (Milles Plateaux, 96) Rapoon - Darker by Light (Soleilmoon, 1996) Merzbow - Scumtron (Remixes, incl. Ae) (Mute, 1997) And a 2-track Single : (Mute, 1997) Hovercraft vagus nerve / de-orbit burn Remix by Scanner I Left behind : Merzbow "Gore Beyond Necropsy" PLEASE don't tell me I would have loved this ?! I somehow doubt it (eh, Robert ;-) ) I have only just brought them home and have done a quick hop, skip and jump through the pile : I'm finding the Alec Empire very difficult to get into. Arno Peeters ??? This is not *music* that makes me happy - what is the general opinion on this? I suppose it's DJ-friendly, in that it can be mixed into-over-under other stuff, but as a stand-alone recording of sounds of cell-phones and MTV static?? City of Light irritates with the rather _New Agey_ poetry read over the top of the Indian-tinged music (which is ambiently pleasant). The Hovercraft/Scanner is bliss. And Question : Is this Freeform the same Freeform from the SKAMpler? ------------------------------------------- If anybody feels like shedding light or opinion on any of these releases, or just let me know what you think of them, I'd love to hear about it! I'm ecstatic ( AND school term has started today : YAY ) I * +++++++++++++++++++++
