Our debt to Karlheinz Stockhausen is so great that I felt I needed to do
something to mark his passing. He was truly visionary and had a deep,
cosmic connection to sound. He used the audio technology of over half a
century in an instinctive and direct way. The way a singer uses their
voice. Not only has he shown us how we could use these ever developing
tools to widen the creative field of musical expression, his work also
demonstrated how natural this approach should be.

Often when I hear that a great person has left us it is with a sense of
sadness that I reflect upon what their life has meant to me. In this
rare case I must say that I am overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude
that such a man has lived and left us so much upon which to reflect. May
he rest in peace.
