for all day listening at work i have found nothing better than
koss porta-pros. they are incredibly cheap. they look rather like
overgrown walkman headphones and they have the most solid bass of
any headphone so small and light. as they're open-ear you can hear
what's going on around you (good for work) and they let your ears
breathe (good for wearing 8 hours at a stretch). lifetime guarantee
so if you snap the connector off (as i did) they replace them no
questions asked.

for dj'ing and performing i use the sony mdr-v6's. they are pretty
much industry-standard for dj's because they are unbelievably
efficient. which means you can hear them over all the noise in
the club. they aren't very comfortable for extended periods of
time because they are closed-ear and they tend to make your ears
sweat. but the bass is monstrous. i don't know any musician
who doesn't have at least one set.
