A friend of mine just bought a 3X12" funk compilation called "Pulp Fusion" (Harmless). It has "Burning Spear" by S.O.U.L. This is where the original flute sample comes from used in last year's abstract downtempo classic "Casual Sub" by ETA (East West). Pete Rock and CL Smooth used a variation of that same loop in "Go with the Flow" (Elektra 1991). Lately I've been spinning some flutes with my downtempo (Beastie Boy's "Flute Loop" and Instrumental, ETA "Casual Sub", Up-Bustle-and-Out, Herbie Mann, Groove Collective, etc...). Can anybody think of any other tracks with flutes on them worth finding on vinyl. As of now I can go for about 30 minutes on the flute tip. Similarly, does anybody know of any decent flutist that might be worth sampling? I think I'm just going to have to tweek out my buddy's Akai Remix 16 and finally take that plunge from DJ to bedroom producer. Also, I just saw this on a new release sheet: PETE ROCK & CL SMOOTH - They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.) $ 10.00 Format: 12 Sub-style: HIP HOP (Elektra, France) 2 trk - Vocal and Instrumental. "Creator (Slide To The Side)" Remix, "Creator": Slide To the Side Remix, EP Mix (Vocal), EP Mix (Instrumentla) The only track I have by them is the one previously mentioned ("Go with the Flow") 12" single. Is any of their other stuff any good? What LP was that track taken from? Is that worth finding?
