>> >>i am not versed in the science of sound, but can >>humans hear over 20 khz? Most humans can "hear" between 20 and 22k cycles; this range varies from person to person of course, but it's highly regarded as "standard." The argument for higher sampling rates comes partly because of one theory regarding auditory phenomena. Some people believe that although we can't audibly hear frequencies above 22k, we can "sense" them. I wish I could go further into this psychoacoustic theory, but that's about all I really know about it. If anyone else would like to share, I'd be interested in knowing. And hey... 24/96 is arguably indistinguishable from analogue, so I'm all for it. At the studio where I work, we're looking to upgrade the Sonic Solutions system to 24/96. It's just a matter of time before it becomes standard. Increased fidelity and 5.1 mix studios are soon going to be a simple matter of course. Just my 2 cents, Kelvin xxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxx.xxx
