I love an obscure device and find the Seiko DS range fascinating. I can back up what Peter says - not only are the plastic cases fairly fragile but (worse) the circuit boards inside are: a) huge and not terribly well supported. b) made of Paxolin (much weaker than fibreglass). c) single-sided (leading to weak solder joints). Essentially this means that any mechanical mistreatment is very likely to result in cracked PCBs and broken solder joints. I have two DS202s here and neither worked on arrival for those reasons. While on the subject, I would love to hear from anyone who has service manuals/schematics for any of the Seiko DS range. I know they do exist, because the ex-head of Seiko's UK importer auctioned off a parcel of kit on eBay last year which included some service manuals, but I missed out and have been unable to contact the auction winner. The DSs use a custom chip for their additive synthesis and a service manual would save a lot of time in reverse engineering. If one is to work towards an emulation then one must first understand the original... Cheers, Steve L.
