Just a thought, how do you know the MIDI stream is getting in?

You could try re-soldering the MIDI in jack. This is a source of failure.

If anything is socketed around the MIDI interface, push it gently together.

The "Waiting..." message should change when it detects a MIDI stream. This is
not happening.

Before cracking the thing open, make 100% sure your MIDI setup is working.

If you have a DX7 or some other synth that receives SYSEX, try sending a bank to it.
This is a good indication that your MIDI setup is valid.

If this is true then you can look at why the MwII is not getting MIDI.

I first cast a suspicious eye on connectors, connections, socketed things.
