Just a thought, how do you know the MIDI stream is getting in? You could try re-soldering the MIDI in jack. This is a source of failure. If anything is socketed around the MIDI interface, push it gently together. The "Waiting..." message should change when it detects a MIDI stream. This is not happening. Before cracking the thing open, make 100% sure your MIDI setup is working. If you have a DX7 or some other synth that receives SYSEX, try sending a bank to it. This is a good indication that your MIDI setup is valid. If this is true then you can look at why the MwII is not getting MIDI.
