urban sounds had a server catastrophe last week during which all issues past and present returned "Location not found"-type errors. in case anybody was wondering, urban sounds was only down, not out. we're back up now, although we're still working on getting the audio for the archived issues back in place (moving forward, we may have to start deleting audio from each issue as it is archived). anyway, just thought i'd let people know. also, we're getting another update together right now and will have reviews of releases by dj krush, dj qbert, jay denham, wunder, sluts'n'strings, and a bunch else up by the weekend. we'll also be adding an exclusive sneak preview of the atom heart/nonplace urban field project, flanger, to the audioplay feature in the Studio section, as well. i'll post a message when it's all up and running. obidm: i checked out the emanate event in san francisco last week, at which our own solenoid fucked shit up next to local artists o.s.t. (aka rook vallard on phthalo and worm interface), if-then-else, and emanate owner-operator lilianthal. i was particularly impressed with lilianthal's stuff. some of it was embarrasingly autechre-inspired (enough already!), but then some else was really excellent, mid-tempo melodic idm with very effective arrangements. reminiscent of din's arovane. a name to watch. pick up the label's compilation, _emanated_, for a taste. sc onnow: robert henke : piercing music (imbalance)
