Chris's list was good based on what I've heard other people recommend on the list in the past. But now www.othermusic.com has ordering online, so I'd have to recommend them out of personal biases. This will be my last plug, since the website is pretty much complete--there are still a few bugs in the borwsing interface and in the new releases, but they have 16,000 title online, and a few different search methods. Apparently capsule descriptions and audio samples will go up eventually, but until then, check their site and compare prices. I saw PJ from modern music there before the launch party, and he commented on how early they had the UNKLe/Rabbit in the Moon remixes. Also note that compilation titles are listed under Artist name. In regards to to the OM show, I thought it was quite good. Two huge rooms with video projections and stuff, plus two loud soundsytems, which weren't amazing in quality, but did seem to get better as the night went on and the room filled up, covering the echoey concrete. Autechre and plaid were great, like people said. Stock Hausen and walkman were good when they did cut and paste with a sense of humor, but a lot of the time they just did boring abrasive stuff. The DJ from Outcaste beats was great at moving the corwd--basically jungle with a few hints of tabla and other talvin singhish stuff. I didn't catch much of Arto Lindsay, but seemed to be doing some funky guitar work with a great band. One of my favorites of the night was Dj wally, who IMO is NY's best dj, if not America's. Basically dancefloor filling hardstep, but great, rough, not so 2-step as to be unlistenable. I like hsi weirder sets too, when he spins more dub and assorted weirdness. has anyone heard his Pish posh 12 inches or any of his other non-album releases? DJ Singe was good too, basically DJ Spooky with more skills and less wank. She spun some hard, scary shit. All in all, a good show. Sam
