Yep, you are wrong :-) 

In its best guise (Can, Kraftwerk, Neu!, Faust, Sand, Brainticket, *some*
Amon Duul, etc.), Krautrock is as rhythmically and sonically inventive as
music comes. Investigate Can's Tago Mago (specifically "Halleluwah"? Did I
spell it right?), any Neu! and any Faust. If you like C93 and Nurse With
Wound (if!), you will find that much of their material (esp. NWW) is
directly influenced by this music. You will find junk (like in all genres)
but there is lots of good stuff.

Stereolab's old sound was just Neu! with female voices. I also think old
Sonic Youth really lifted from this area.
