eMpTV will be showing a special on the making of the fake Madonna's new record this evening (Sunday, 3/1/1998 for the absolutists other there, you know who you are or what you are or if you are). 10:00 pm EST; local times may vary. Check Tubescan at www.mtv.com if in doubt. Who the hell cares? Well: William Orbit fans may be interested, as I expect that the show will include interviews and perhaps action clips of Mr. O. My own judgement is that Will is one of the best producers on the scene, and will only get better, so someone to watch with open ears (sorry, synaesthesia again). Speaking of the fake Madonna, it always surprises me that people are not insulted by her surreptitious acquisition of a sacred name. Not that I'm taken with any particular religion per se, but I still consider myself obligated to respect the views of others, unless I myself find those views apprehensible to the extent that I would voice protest. To trivially take on a name from a vast religious tradition is at the very least bad taste. (Perhaps I'm misguided to hope for good taste). One might expect to find such behaviour accepted, even, regaled, in some post-punkish political or social statement. But in what amounts to sugary pop confections on a mass order? It's worse than the Beatles' claim of being "bigger than Jesus". Even Elvis never veered into such bad taste. (Well, except for some of those monologues in the midst of songs). Such acts cast an unfavorable light on the actor, and call for a major injection of humility. Where's that Belgian pie chef when you need him? 3 P.S. Then again, if given the opportunity to produce Ms. Fake Madonna's next masterpiece, with all the associated fame/glory/$, would you politely decline?
