Fair point, but be assured batteries are handled in a nice way in Iceland. We have to turn them into a collection point and they are processed separately. None are allowed to enter the general rubbish and I believe most people follow this rule. I use about 12 'C' cells a year in my 101 / 606 and a handful of 9V cells in pedals. This is mostly for playing live when I am the "band in the middle". ie) no sound check, blaze in, set up, play, take down, get the hell off the stage... then everything that can be on batteries is on batteries. Still, you have inspired me to look into rechargeables. Thanks.
