I got there around 11:30 and Jeswa, I think, was spinning. He was wearing a Kraftwerk Robots T and spinnning some electro that I didn't recognize. I got a beer and then Richard Devine came on. He played a live set crouched down behind some gear with a laptop perched on top. It was very nice stuff; I'm looking forward to the Trapezoid 12-inch. As I was listening to him, I was standing behind two tallish guys who were dancing. That was fun ("Dancing to IDM is phat."), but for some reason I wanted a better look at man twiddling the knobs. So I moved over behind two short guys in baggy pants who were right up front but not dancing. (There were maybe 25 people scattered in front of the "stage.") Then the music stopped and everyone applauded, to which Mr. Devine stood up and explained, "The Power went out!" A record was thrown on and the problem was looked into. At this point, the two guys in front of me started talking to each other. I noticed they had British accents, then I noticed the recently familiar mini-fro on one of them, then they turned around to talk to the guy next to me and HOLY SHIT! it's Sean Booth and Rob Brown! I thought about saying something to them--that their music is one of my favorite things in life, that they played a great set the night before, why do I like new Gescom stuff more than I like new Autechre stuff--but couldn't think of anything worthwhile. The power to Richard Devine's equipment was restored and he played until about 1:00. I left around 1:30. Why did no one else go to this show? There were maybe 9 or 10 people who looked to be random IDM listers like me, and there was a group of about 25 people that Misters Booth and Brown were hanging out with, and then there were some club kids. Who else was there? Can anyone confirm that it was Jeswa (which is Josh Kay, right?) spinning before Richard Devine? And because I could still be convinced otherwise, can anyone put Sean and Rob anywhere else on the planet that night thereby making me the admirer of simply two random UK emigres? >Gonzi|Fresh|Merchan Orange Fax >Orange County, CA PO Box 253 (714)993-9248 >USA Atwood, CA > 92811 ---------------------------------- Danny Wyatt xxxxx@xxxxxxxxx.xxx http://www.arbitrary.com
