Jazz using electronic instrumentation that'll blow yer lid. > Nice stuff all Longtime IDM subscribers know I periodically flog this puppy: Weather Report "Sweetnighter" -- unfortunately Sony Music has never reissued this on CD or vinyl. Superfunky jazz-rock dream team -- Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Airto Moriera, Miroslav Vitous, Eric Gravatt... Columbia EC 32210 Airto -- FINGERS (CTI SLIB177) Airto Moreira is a Brazilian percussionist who played with everyone in the 70's. "Fingers" is his debut American album. Very melodic, rhythmically dense stuff on the brazilian tip. A huge chunk of a track from this record was sampled on a recent Nuyorican Soul record. By the way, ANYTHING you see on CTI from the 70s is worth having. They always stand out because they have super glossy covers with a black border surrounding a bright color picture. Horacee Arnold "Tales of the Exonerated Flea" Columbia KC 32869 Extremely rare and out of print and my copy is rather thrashed ;-( Polyrhythmic, odd time signatures, minimoog wailing, and pre-Philip Glass minimal hypnotic loopiness. If ANYONE finds a copy of this in good condition I will pay up to $30 for it. Going further afield: Chick Corea "Light as a Feather" -- before Chick twinked out and became a scientologist, before the dreadful "Romantic Warrior" period noodle-wanking, this was the album. Also featuring Flora Purim on vocals and Airto on traps, this contains the almost unbearably dreamy "500 miles high" which is floaty and funky in turns.
