'bout time for a new concert review, right? Caught LowRes (Phthalo) at Liquid in SanFran last night, made me grin to only spend $3 at the door. Plus there was a bum or two getting to hear it for free right oustide on the sidewalk. I showed up around 11:30 to hear a resident DJ (?) wrap it up w/ a few dark & throaty tech step (the kind that makes you feel warm & fuzzy inside). LowRes started right up around 11:45 on a table to the side of the room, with _no turntables_, just lotso gear, knobs, wires, and a laptop. that's the way I like this kind of show, and this is what I expected. the set was bipolar - first half was the abstract mayhem to be expected from LowRes - zipping & unzipping of some beat rollers, skronks and squelches adding chaos to the collage. most of the audience kind of clung to the walls, slackjawed. the second half morphed right into a completely different dance set with beats that were influenced by jazz, r&b. all of the sudden everyone was happy again and started dancing. at that point I just laughed my baws off, mostly at the irony of the control LowRes had with the audience. the crowd was small, but everyone had fun, I had fun, and for $3, I felt like a "winner" ;) cripes, I even got his Crank CD the other day. I'm supporting the guy's habit. and there were *some* cute boys and girls and drugs there, if that's what you're looking for.. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
