i tried posting this earlier but it didn't seem to go through.... wow. looks like we have a pretty damn good music department. the department must be quite small. for one thing, 800 people graduated from my college last june (UCSD is divided into 5 colleges). only one was a music major... a music/biology double major to be exact. secondly, only music majors are premitted to take upper division courses in the departmnet. non-majors must petition the department (this is not the case with other departments). Anyway, thanks for all the info.
