De Babalon's "If you're into it I'm out of it" is a great record, and not at all typical DHR (for the record, I friggin' loathe DHR). In somewhat the same way that Surgeon fuses dark ambiance and techno, CDB brings together oppressive, isolationist sound-wash with dark drum'n'bass. Three of the tracks are straight ambient drone, no beats whatsoever; the rest of the record is jungle, not really in the vein of any particular school (techstep, ambient, etc.). Definitely dark & pissed off, but not nearly as harsh as tech-step. There's even some Christian Vogelesque bleepery in there. For a review of the album, see: http://www.urbansounds.com/archives/us_dec_97/us_jungle_debabalon.html It's also worth picking up De Babalon's DHR 12" if you can find it ("Seven Up" or something like that?). His track on a Ghetto Safari 12" isn't nearly so good. phil
