(idm) IDM Remix Chain

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to the list so a little word of introduction should be
in order. I'm Julien and I live in France. IDM is not the type of
music I listen to the most, but I still have a lot of interest in
it. I guess I'll be more of a lurker (and a digest-subscriber)...

About the remix chain idea: even if starting from a crappy
pop/aor/whatever song to produce a cool IDM track is an intersting
challenge, I think it would take a lot of work and talent to make it
more than a novelty... Look at the first Moog Cookbook CD: funny
the first time you hear it, but not really worth buying when there's
so much more interesting music around.

Another (third?) idea for a remix chain would be the following:
everyone participating in the project creates a track, then pass it
on in a ring fashion to the next IDMer to be remixed. One iteration
would be enough to create something interesting, but more iterations
could be made (e.g. until you get back your original track, meaning
that *everyone* in the chain remixed it!) This transforms the remix
chain (proposition 1) into a remix ring.

I hope this project comes to life and becomes an ultra-rare limited
edition vynil-only release!

bye, julien
