I saw John Acquaviva spin Saturday night and was heavily impressed. His approach to 4/4 is very precise and leads him into some wild hypnagogic/trance-inducing moments. Definitely not the run of the mill stuff. I know he has a few mix CDs out and is half of Plus 8 records but does he produce as well? He was also playing some stuff that had Brazilian percussion and techno beats. I couldn't tell if he was mixing two different records or simply spinning a solitary track. Does this sort of hybrid sound familiar to anyone? Pointers to a similar sound are appreciated. It sounded very nice.
