Most of the Voice's music writers are readable, but barely interesting. Douglas Wolk is the one notable exception, other than that, you get pretty much standard categorization, unimaginative writing, etc. J hoberman can still write a good movie review on occasion, but other than that, the guys at NY press are right--the voice should be taken out and shot, a mercy killing. As ridiculous as Ny press' inflammatory politics are, the Voice is just limp. And Ny press lets its writers write, be ambitious. That's something, at least...
