These shelves sound the same as the ones I bought at Walmart. They were cheap pine slats with screws. I just spent and afternoon and screwed them together and organized my records. It was pretty nice. They are a bit wobbly though. If you're in an area prone to earthquakes you might want to screw them down to a wall with L brackets. -rbc3
