(idm) Goldie review

I've never really had a beef with Goldie. I've heard various stuff by him
over the last few years, dug some of it, hated some of it, whatever. I
thought Timeless was pretty overrated, but recognized a few nice moments.

However. I've just finished listening to a promo copy of Saturnzreturn,
and I had to crank off this off-the-cuff review before I broke something:

Saturnzreturn is rambling, pointless, masturbatory, soulless,
self-important, and - worst of all - BORING!

The collaboration with Noel Gallagher, "Temper Temper", is annoying.
"Digital" wastes the talent of KRS-1 with poorly structured rhythms and
a pathetic attempt at being "dark" halfway through. The attempts taken at
creating an atmosphere of soul or funk are so lifeless that I had to
struggle to keep myself from skipping to the next track several times. And
while "Mother", the hour+ track that takes up the entire first disc, is
ambitious to be sure, it also smacks so much of an artist trying to create
work miles beyond his reach that it's simply laughable.

While I suppose there's a chance that I will hear something weaker than
this sprawling, useless, steaming turd of an album in the next 11 and a
half months, it's gonna be tough to beat, so I have the distinct feeling
that I have already heard the worst album of 1998, jungle or otherwise.
