v/vm / 3rd eye foundation - split 12" [fat cat 06]

3rd eye's 'there's no end in sight', clocks in at over
12 minutes, 2 tracks spliced from probably hours of tape
in finest ted marceo style, tickles the cerebrum as a
would-be soundtrack to a monochromatic lo-budget flick
depicting teenage joy riders careering through the
narrow streets of a dark sprawling housing estate
pursued at high speed by the long arm of the law..opening
segue simulates the thrill of the chase and initial
rush of adrenaline experienced by both the protagonists
and the authorities with multi-layered gritty
tumbling breakbeats, lurching & accelerating as if
negotiating junctions and tight bends..the end sequence,
a dreamy extended guitar coda, something you wouldn't
find out of place on a spiritulized or flying saucer
attack album could simulate the penultimate scene where
the joy riders, in an act of defiance, "you'll never take
us alive!", self destruct both themselves and their
vehicle, shot say 'zabraskie point' style, where the end
section of explosions are displayed in slow-motion,
transforming brutality & ugliness into a beautiful
auto destructive art form.

just as you were sitting comfortably / basking in the
good humoured glow of their xmas 7" 'missingtoe and
whine', v/vm bash you around the head with your pre-
conceptions and offer up 4 slices of harsh dystopic
discord.keywords..grey, industrial, sinister,
confrontational, aggressive..sheen's journey into
deepest vietnam in search of kurtz..an excursion into
deeper and darker territory than 'privileged frames of
referance..'Lumberjack WLTM'..ghost of augustus pablo
consorting with 99% era meat beat manifesto
whilst being willingly corrupted by throbbing gristle..
'Female Pig Herder'..brutal mutilation performed via
white noise on a distorted drexciyan electro missive ..
'Looks Unimportant'..glimpse into the arcane languages
of dysfunctional ancient mainframe's..information
garbled and scrambled..'Will Travel, North West'..a
dying supernova collapses..bursts of intense radiation,
fragments of chatter imbedded in heart stopping emotive
strings..

V/VM..noise as catharsis?..to me the sound of jeff noon's
manchester or as nietzche wrote 'we realize that everything
that is born must be prepared to face it's painful dissolution.
it [the dyonisian spirit of music] forces us to gaze into
the horror of individual existence, yet without being
turned to stone by that vision'
