Just picked up a couple of promos yesterday - Power of Love by Wagon Christ and The latest Red Snapper. Much as I hate to reccomend anything by Warp after their shitty behaviour over the Autechre MP3 site, the Red Snapper EP's pretty good. A bit harder edged than their other stuff. It's the David Holmes mix that does it for me though - Seems like this man can do no wrong, especially after the blinding album and that Dawn of the Replicants mix. Mixes perfectly into Mag by Gescom as well. When I put the Wagon Christ 12" on, like Cichlisuite, Undoneson, Sondierdiste and others, I didn't know what speed to play it at. At 33 it sounds vaguely like A Polished Solid, and at 45 it sounds more like the Plug stuff, with slightly more dancefloor friendly beats (ie snares on every 2nd and 4th beat). After a while I decided I preferred it at 45. Nothing particularly new, but a pretty cool EP nonetheless, with lots of nice Vibert-y melodies. Also, I read in NME a review of the Ae remix of Stereolab - Does this mean it's getting a UK release? Dan Shoebridge. np: Funkungfusion (hence the subject heading) - Good stuff, but could do with a few less of those nasty squeaky jazzy tracks if you ask me.
