Good examples:
1. "The Blue Room" by the Orb featured some guitar by Steve Hillage
2. Underworld certainly makes good use of guitar sound
3. "Lift" by 808 State
4. Michael Brook's albums
5. Have you heard of the Robert Fripp and the Orb collaboration.
6. Prodigy (I'm sure I'm gonna receive a lot of reactions here). "Smack my
Bitch up" is a great mix of guitar rock and breakbeat. "No Man Army" from
the Spawn soundtrack featured the Prodigy and Tom Morello of Rage Against
the Machine. It was an awesome track.
7. "Setting Sun" by the Chemical Brothers with Noel Gallagher is a very
good record.

There are a lot more. I get what you mean, there are a lot out there too
that sounds really cheesy.
