Granted, it's not like the aphex twin, =B5-ziq, wagon christ, cylob, or jega style, but the "sound/style" of those artists=20 is not the only "sound/style" that can be considered idm. i would assume that if you don't like the "crazy wacked out noise" of phthalo, then you're probably=20 not familiar with several other likeminded and=20 likesounding labels that are all considered idm labels - v/vm, mego, a-musik, rastermusik, platelunch,=20 cheap, mille plateaux, irdial, moikai and imbalance=20 to name just a few. to further prove my point, i was told=20 that the guys from v/vm as well as mouse on mars both love the phthalocyanine stuff so much so that the=20 would love to and/or are going to release some of=20 his stuff. the phthalo label happily labels their music as "harder to digest tracks." so you know not to=20 expect any pretty easy listening stuff. but the phthalo record label is doing great stuff. there=20 are several relaeses by phthalocyanine himself, but also by crank (low res), rook vallade (OST), Dean & Jerry MVFS (phthalo & low res) and soon some of our FAVORITE idm artists will appear on this label too. you'll see who soon... regarding the plug research label, they are have done a few minimalish techno projects but even those are pretty fresh for that style. PR has also been doing=20 some unbelieveably cool idm stuff. take their comp for example, tracks by low res, lustmord, stasis, mannequin lung, and r.e.a.l.m. to name just a few. and the mannequin lung album is breathtaking! it will be one of my top albums of the year. but most of all you'll love the new plug research album by Low Res called Approximate Love Boat - mistaken=20 alien interpretations of earth music. It's fourteen tracks of "more traditional" idm type stuff=20 incorporating dark spooky atmospheres, warped melodies and twisted percussions sounding something like what a coil & autechre collaboration would be like. The low res cd will be out in a=20 few weeks. I can't recommend it enough. gil, it sounds like you just don't like the more=20 experimental or floor friendly sounds of idm=20 and there's nothing wrong with that. just don't=20 discount styles you don't like. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states
