More reviews to puruse. Some real gems in this lot of=20 releases... . Insync + IF: Masp 12" (Plink Plonk) Lee Purkins aka Insync and Pantelli aka Invisible Force/ Megalon collaborate here on a great up-tempo pounding deep=20 techno track which continually jumps from lush strings to=20 drum fills and back again. The b-side features two remixes=20 of the a-side by Mark Broom & Dave Hill. The first mix is=20 stripped down into a nice pounding minimal techno number.=20 The second remix is slowed down and lushed up with strings=20 and a nice distorted bassline. Another winnner for Insync, Broom, Hill and Plink Plonk. 10/10 . Technasia: Themes from a Neon City 12" (Technasia) Three tracks of solid electronica out of Hong Kong that sounds good at 45 as Sublime-like melodic tech-house. But I like it best at 33 giving the tracks a downtempo electronica in the Skam/Schematic vein. Entertaining at both speeds. 6/10 . Daniel Ibbotson: New Stories 12" (Reel) Clear recording artist Daniel Ibbotson with a real surprising 12" of lush mid-tempo techno-jazz. Soaring chords, sopping funk, and deep bass make every track a real treat. Fans of some of Ian O'Brien's jazzier work on ferox will really like this 12". This will be in my top 5 for 97. 9/10 . Claude Young: Soft Thru 2x12" (Elypsia) Claude's much anticipated full-length is a jaw-dropping experience of detroit minimal, melodic and ambient techno. All nine tracks are infinitely crafted masterpieces that will thrill the club and home audiences alike. If you've enjoyed any of Claude's other 12"s the you'll love this lp. A must have! 10/10 . Mail Order Only comp 12" (Pure Plastic) A brilliant limited edition compilation 12" from the Pure Plastic=20 label featuring three tracks from Repeat, Midnight Funk Association=20 and Mark Broom. Repeat's track is a beautiful atmospheric track with soaring synths and oddly-timed hip-hop percussion. The Midnight Funk=20 Assoc track is a funky downtempo number that is basically a single synth and drumm loop. The Broom track is a minimal techno number=20 with some deep bass and a wierd rhythmic pattern. The Repeat and Broom tracks are golden and worth the trouble of tracking down this release. 8/10 . SDP: Nevralgia 12" (DMT Records) Nicolas Scaravilli, =BD of the Headcleaner duo on Reload, here with three tracks of uptempo tribal techno with a little acid=20 flavor on the two b-side tracks. No new ground being broken=20 on any of these tracks and the ground that they cover didn't hold my attention for long. 4/10 More reviews in a few days...
